ITPE Membership Benefits

Do you know as a member of the Industrial, Technical and Professional Employees Union (ITPE), you also become a member of the Office & Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO? ITPE is OPEIU Local 4873.

Eligibility Period
Employees/members become eligible for the benefits outlined above after completion of 30 days employment. Newly organized bargaining unit employees become eligible immediately on the effective date of the first Collective Bargaining Agreement with their employer.

Health & Welfare Fund Scholarhip Benefit
As a participant in the Health & Welfare Fund, you and your dependent children may qualify for an ITPE Health & Welfare Fund Scholarship.
  • Five (5) four-year scholarships for study at a college or university in amounts up to $10,000.00 in each of the four years.
  • Two (2) two-year awards for study at a Vocational/technical School or institute in amounts up to $5,000.00 per year of study.
Applications are available online or from your Union Representative, the ITPE Health & Welfare office and your employer. Applications must be received by December 1st of the prior year in which you intend to enter school, at the Scholarship and Recognition Programs/Educational Testing Services, P.O. Box #6730, Princeton, NJ 08541.

Do you know as an ITPE member, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, with your employer may provide you with Pension Benefits?

The Union negotiated hourly contribution rate is paid by your employer and remitted to the Plan's office each month. It is then placed in your account under your Social Security number and name.

Pension Vesting
Regular employees – On completion of One Thousand (1,000) hours of service in the employment of an employer within twelve (12) consecutive months prior or subsequent to such Employer becoming party to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Seasonal Employees – On the completion of One Thousand (1,000) hours of service during any consecutive three (3) year period of "Seasonal Employment" as defined at Section 1.23 of the Plan.

Withdrawal of Accumulated Share
A participant must submit a withdrawal application form to the Pension Plan's office.

Then pursuant to the Pension Plan's Procedure you could withdraw your accumulated share in accordance with the following events.
  • In the event of termination or resignation – one (1) year.
  • In the event of a bargaining unit site closure – 120 days.
  • In the event you have Fifteen (15) continuous years of service and are at least Fifty (50) years of age and terminate employment – 120 days.
  • In the event you are Sixty-two (62) years of age and retire – immediately.
  • In the event you become totally disabled – immediately.
  • In the event of participant's death, named beneficiary – immediately.

Do you know ITPE Agreements with many employers provide benefits to be paid directly to you under the ITPE Annual Benefits Fund (ABF)?

Those benefits include the following:
  • Paid Vacation – Number of weeks based on years of service.
  • Paid Holiday Pay – One (1) day paid each month. (12 per year)
  • Paid Sick Leave (six (6) days)
  • Paid Bereavement Leave (three (3) days each bereavement)
  • Paid Training Pay (per contract)
  • Paid Jury Duty (five (5) days)
  • Paid Special Benefit – Extra Holiday pay determined by the Annual Benefit Fund Board of Trustees when funds available.
  • Eligibility – For Vacation-Holiday-Sick Leave benefits, etc., are in accordance with the ABF Summary Plan Description.

ITPE Annual Benefit Fund Scholarships
As a participant in the Annual Benefit Fund you and your dependents may qualify for one of the following ABF scholarships:
  • Four 4-year scholarships for study at a college/university in amounts up to $10,000.00 in each of the four years.
  • Two 2-year scholarships for study at a community/junior college in amounts up to $5,000.00 in each of the two years.
  • Eight (8) awards for up to two years of study at a vocational/technical school or institute in amounts up to $3,500.00 per year of study.
Applications and letters of instruction are available online or from your Annual Benefit Fund participating employer, the ITPE Union Representative and the ITPE Annual Benefits Fund office.

Howard Coughlin Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • Full-Time Scholarships
    Twelve (12) full-time scholarships awarded on the basis of at least one (1) per region. Each scholarship is $ 1,250.00 per year for a total maximum value of $ 5,000.00.
  • Part-Time Scholarships
    Six (6) part-time scholarships awarded on the basis of at least one (1) per region. Each part-time scholarship is $ 500.00 per year for a total maximum value of $ 2,000.00
John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarship Fund
Ten (10) scholarships per year awarded on the basis of at least one (1) per region. Each scholarship has a total maximum value of $ 2,000.00.

OPEIU Romeo Corbeil Memorial Fund
The OPEIU Romeo Corbeil Memorial Fund offers an opportunity for children of OPEIU members to attend a summer camp for a week and learn about union and issues such as sex discrimination and racism while having fun.

Six (6) scholarships are offered each year; one per region and not to exceed one per family for a lifetime for children between the ages of thirteen (13) and sixteen (16).
